Anthony Volpe, wearing number 14 and playing shortstop in both weekend exhibition games for the Yankees, looked slick as usual at shortstop.
Volpe, who spent five years in the Diamond Jacks program at Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J., has been elevated since last summer to the Yankees No. 1 overall prospect and the No. 10 prospect in Major League Baseball.
The Watchung native is slated to start the season essentially in his boyhood backyard when the Double-A Somerset Patriots start their season in a few weeks at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J.
But, for now, he’s spending time with his new friends Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and company in Tampa, Florida, working on his game with the long – or maybe short – range plan of eventually reuniting with his new friends again in Bronx, N.Y.
